And the Emmy Goes To…. The SurlyGurls Emmy Recap

Well, the Emmys have come and gone, and we’re left feeling a little empty from it. We understand that ‘Modern Family’ is funny, but it’s not the only funny show on television. And yes, ‘Mad Men’ is awesome and the actors are gorgeous and there is lots of drama, but again, it’s not the only drama on.

There are so many shows nominated each year that seem to just be filler. Why even have a program? Why not just put out a press release and tell us who you all think are the best on T.V. and we can pretend to be shocked.

There were however some highlights.

The opening sequence was about 5 minutes too long and the song was not as funny as they wanted it to be. However, watching Jane Lynch inform the cast of ‘Mad Men’ that women can marry other women and that commercials get fast-forwarded was pretty awesome.

The Emmy Tones were cute, and a great idea, for the first 20 minutes of the show. They quickly wore out their welcome though. Which is too bad, because we Surly Gurls do adore Zachary Levi.

Almost every single comedy award was given to ‘Modern Family’. Do the creators of these awards show not realize how BORING it is for the people watching to see the same show win everything?

However, the comedy actresses saved the day by creating a Zoolander-esque, Miss America pageant out of their award. And we can’t be happier that Melissa McCarthy took that one home! (Even though it makes us both wrong on our predictions.) Plus, we don’t think they gave it to her for ‘Mike and Molly’, we think they gave it to her for her effing hilarious role in ‘Bridesmaids’ since there is no way there is an Oscar coming her way for that.

There were other moments that were merely okay including ‘The Office’ skit, LL Cool J joining the Emmy Tones and The Lonely Island and Michael Bolton. They were all funny in the beginning, but we quickly lost interest. Especially The Lonely Island, we can’t be the only people who were wondering what the hell was going on. Also, since when is the In Memoriam more about the singers than the people who passed away?

Overall, it was pretty much what you can expect from pretty much every award show. A bunch of disappointment with a few glimmering moments that stand out because they were the shockers or the unexpected.

  1. I really want to see Mildred Pierce. Kate Winslet and Guy Pearce are in it!?
