New in Theatres · October 14, 2011

The ol’ movieplex looks a lot like it did back in the early 80’s…only crappier! Needless remakes and prequels are your big choices this weekend. You can watch Ramona Flowers battle body-snatching aliens or some nobody stomp all over a classic with great technical precision.

THE THING (2011)
“ It’s not human. Yet.”

Directing: Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.
Writing: Eric Heisserer, John W. Campbell Jr. (short story)
Starring: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Ulrich Thomsen

An arguably unnecessary prequel to the John Carpenter’s 1982 sci-fi/horror classic, this ‘The Thing’ depicts the events that take place at the Norwegian research base just before the shit goes down with Kurt Russell’s team in the original ‘The Thing’.

Price of Admission will get you TONS of gore and a little paleontologist chick kickin’ ass!!! That sounds like our kind of movie!

Running Time · 103 min
Genre · Horror / Mystery / Sci-Fi / Thriller
Rated · R

FOOTLOOSE (2011)
“ There comes a time to cut loose.”

Directing: Craig Brewer
Writing: Dean Pitchford (screenplay), Craig Brewer (screenplay), Dean Pitchford (story)
Starring: Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid, Andie MacDowell

Speaking of unnecessary… (Though there is really no argument in this case), the release date for the ‘Footloose’ remake has finally come! For those of you who haven’t seen the 1984 original it is about a city kid who moves to a little hick town where the “devil’s music” and dancing are against the law! But, no regulations can repress this kid’s spirit and desire to … cut loose!

Price of Admission will get you an uninspired and pointless remake of the campy Kevin Bacon classic. Also, Andie MacDowell is in this movie – and we HATE her! It may be irrational, but we hate her with a fiery passion that no words can accurately convey.

Running Time · 113 min
Genre · Comedy / Drama / Music
Rated · PG-13

THE BIG YEAR
“ Everyone is searching for something.”

Directing
: David Frankel
Writing: Howard Franklin (screenplay), Mark Obmascik (book)
Starring: Owen Wilson, Jack Black, Steve Martin

Three men, at different stages of life, take a year off to go out into the world in search of adventure, birds and themselves.

Price of Admission will get you a something along the lines of ‘The Bucket List’, only less depressing and with more competitive birding.

Running Time · 100 min
Genre · Comedy
Rated · PG

  1. Where is the *Like* button for the Andie MacDowell loathing?

  2. I heard on the radio today that Footloose is almost EXACTLY like the old one..so what’s the point of re-making it? And what’s with that bird-watching movie? Seriously?
