Category Archives: PREMIERES
Sunday, Bloody Sunday.
All you vampire lovers out there, rejoice! Tonight is the night that your beloved Sookie Sackhouse returns to the small screen at 9 PM on HBO. The premiere of ‘True Blood’ brings the creole creatures and their favourite mind-reading waitress back with all the drama you’ve all come to love so much.
For monsters of a completely different kind, WE TV is premiering ‘Bridezillas’ tonight at 10 PM. Nothing says love and honour like screaming, crying and over the top tantrums. Who said getting married is supposed to be the happiest time of your life?
Remember the good old days when season finales meant you got to escape the grasp of your television for a mere 3 months of the year? You got to get outside and enjoy the company of actual people? There are so many premieres happening tonight it’s like September has come early…only with really shitty offerings.
Apparently NBC and FOX are competing to have the absolute worst take on the “Dating Game”. NBC will be creating some kind of terrible Frankenstein’s monster of reality game shows with ‘Love In The Wild’ at 8 PM. It’s a little bit ‘Survivor’, a little bit ‘Fear Factor’ and a little bit ‘The Bachelor’. At the same time FOX will premiere ‘Take Me Out’, a show in which 30 women will compete for one man by turning a light podium off and on. If that sounds like the worst part, it’s not, this show is hosted by the always irritating George Lopez.
For a Sunday night, there is a lot going on in the world of T.V. premieres! There are four premieres and a special event going on tonight, which means there is lots of variety, and even some that the SurlyGurls will be watching (or PVRing while we’re at the theatre seeing ‘Snow White and The Huntsman’)
First up, at 9 PM on A&E is the premiere of their comedic cop drama ‘The Glades’. We can’t be the only ones out there that think this is just a new version of ‘CSI: Miami’ with a better looking cast. Who keeps green lighting all these cop shows, seriously?!
Lifetime is also competing for your views at 9 PM with the premiere of the fourth season of ‘Drop Dead Diva’. The hilarious journey of Deb/Jane as she learns just how different life can be for a plus-size girl continues tonight. We’re not saying this is the height of intellectual television, but it is a cute little comedy, but it is one of Whitney’s guilty pleasures.
Well, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to cash in on the drama and jealously of the ballet world. What makes better reality t.v. than a bunch of perfectionist super-athletes all competing for the same two roles in a production?
Looks like The CW is going to bring you all the Pas De Deux and Plies you could ask for with the premiere of ‘Breaking Pointe’ tonight at 8 PM. Focusing on the Salt Lake City ballet company, Ballet West, the show will follow both the personal and performance lives of it’s best and brightest. We can only hope for some ‘Black Swan’ style freak out to make it interesting.
Well, tonight gives us half an hour of relief from the constant reality t.v. viewing. Of course, it comes in the form of a cheesey, family-friendy sitcom…so you know, what is worse really?
If you’re looking for something to watch at 8 PM tonight, you’ve got two choices:
On ABC Family, the second season of ‘Melissa and Joey’ premieres tonight. Someone, somewhere thought it would be an amazing idea to pair Melissa Joan Hart and Joey ‘Whoa’ Lawrence up – we’re not sure why either. It’s pretty much ‘Who’s The Boss’ for a new generation with Joey playing the ‘manny’ to Melissa’s politician.
Yet another night of “reality” television for you tonight. Apparently the summer is going to be all about watching real people act like idiots on camera.
The CW will introduce the world to the young and hot staff of Miami’s The Catalina hotel in the aptly named new show ‘The Catalina’ at 8 PM. We know, you’ve all been waiting to see how the staff of a hotel can out party their guests, and now you can. How exciting.
Now that our season finale hangovers are passing, it’s time to look ahead to what the summer has in store for us on the television. It’s a long wait for September, and there is nothing wrong with spending those humid, 40-degree nights in the glorious cool of air conditioning, giving some of the summer premieres a chance.
We know, summer television is usually the backwoods cousin of the regular season, but you never know what you could find. After all, ‘True Blood’, ‘Weeds’ and ‘Breaking Bad’ are all slated to start their new seasons.
