Remember the good old days when season finales meant you got to escape the grasp of your television for a mere 3 months of the year? You got to get outside and enjoy the company of actual people? There are so many premieres happening tonight it’s like September has come early…only with really shitty offerings.
Apparently NBC and FOX are competing to have the absolute worst take on the “Dating Game”. NBC will be creating some kind of terrible Frankenstein’s monster of reality game shows with ‘Love In The Wild’ at 8 PM. It’s a little bit ‘Survivor’, a little bit ‘Fear Factor’ and a little bit ‘The Bachelor’. At the same time FOX will premiere ‘Take Me Out’, a show in which 30 women will compete for one man by turning a light podium off and on. If that sounds like the worst part, it’s not, this show is hosted by the always irritating George Lopez.
For a Sunday night, there is a lot going on in the world of T.V. premieres! There are four premieres and a special event going on tonight, which means there is lots of variety, and even some that the SurlyGurls will be watching (or PVRing while we’re at the theatre seeing ‘Snow White and The Huntsman’)
First up, at 9 PM on A&E is the premiere of their comedic cop drama ‘The Glades’. We can’t be the only ones out there that think this is just a new version of ‘CSI: Miami’ with a better looking cast. Who keeps green lighting all these cop shows, seriously?!
Lifetime is also competing for your views at 9 PM with the premiere of the fourth season of ‘Drop Dead Diva’. The hilarious journey of Deb/Jane as she learns just how different life can be for a plus-size girl continues tonight. We’re not saying this is the height of intellectual television, but it is a cute little comedy, but it is one of Whitney’s guilty pleasures.
Now that our season finale hangovers are passing, it’s time to look ahead to what the summer has in store for us on the television. It’s a long wait for September, and there is nothing wrong with spending those humid, 40-degree nights in the glorious cool of air conditioning, giving some of the summer premieres a chance.
We know, summer television is usually the backwoods cousin of the regular season, but you never know what you could find. After all, ‘True Blood’, ‘Weeds’ and ‘Breaking Bad’ are all slated to start their new seasons.
It’s all about competition tonight on television!
The crazy women of ‘Dance Moms’ return at 8 PM on Lifetime tonight. If there was ever an argument for keeping little girls out of competitive dance classes, this show is it. It still amazes us that there are women out there who will spend every penny they make on sequinned costumes and cross-country trips just so their kid can win a competition.
A&E is premiering their newest competition show tonight at 9 PM. ‘Shipping Wars’ is the third “wars” show the channel has produced and looks to follow the formula pretty close. The truckers on ‘Shipping Wars’ bid for the chance to haul unusual cargo across America, taking anything from million dollar luxury cars to camels.
Not to be outdone, Bravo is premiering ‘Tabitha Takes Over’ tonight at 10 PM. Tabitha and her always perfect hair are branching out from just salons and helping all kinds of small business owners. She’ll even be taking on a doggie hotel this season. She’s like the prettier, nicer, female version of Gordon Ramsey.
However, what we’ll be tuning into tonight is ‘The L.A. Complex’ tonight at 9 PM on Muchmusic or CTV here in Canada. It’s our beloved Jewel Staite’s new show about actors trying to make it in L.A. Sorry to our American friends, you’ll have to wait until the spring to see it when The CW picks it up.
Tonight is a bit weak on the premieres unless you’re into reality t.v.
‘Dog The Bounty Hunter’ and his luscious mullet are back on A&E at 10 PM tonight. If watching North America’s biggest dirtbag chase other dirtbags around is your thing, you’re in luck. Start chilling your ‘Schlitz’ now and it will be one hell of a trailer-park party.
If you like your reality a little more up-lifting then you might want to channel surf over to FOX at 9 PM for the premiere of ‘Mobbed’. Host Howie Mandel helps people set up “flash mobs” to help them deliver big news to their loved ones, co-workers and friends. It’s a hidden camera show with a twist.
Also premiering tonight:
Not My Mama’s Meals with Bobby Deen – Cooking Channel 9 PM
