And The Academy Award Goes To…

It was a great night for movies about ‘The Movies’! Both of the big winners last night – taking 5 awards each – were love letters to the history of film. While ‘The Artist’ cleaned up in almost all of the major awards (sorry Bernice Bejo), ‘Hugo’ won almost all of the technical awards.

Well, we don’t like to brag…wait, yes we do…but we definitely kicked some ass this time around on our picks! Together we got an amazing 20 out of 24 right this year! That is an amazing 83% accuracy. (For those of your keeping track, Andrea won the pool this year with 18 right. Whitney was the weak link this time, with 14)

How great was Billy Crystal?! His musical number was hilarious and his comic timing was perfect. It was such a nice change to watch someone who seemed at home and natural hosting. We’re really hoping that the Academy are already wooing him for next year. And, if at all possible, ‘Cirque Du Soleil’ should be incorporated every year as well.

Razzies Relocate to April Fools’ Day

If you were eagerly awaiting tomorrow night’s announcement of the Razzies nominations, you’re about to be disappointed.

The organizers of the infamous award show spoof have decided to take full advantage of the 2012 calendar and have rescheduled both their nomination and prize ceremonies.

Traditionally, the Razzie nominations, dishonouring the worst achievements in film, have been announced the night before the Oscar nominations, with the award ceremony being held the night before the Oscar’s ceremony.

But when John Wilson and Mo Murphy, the co-owners of the Razzies, flipped through the calendar and saw that April 1st landed on a Sunday this year, they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bestow “Tinsel Town’s Tackiest Trophy” on April Fools’ Day.

No surprise to anyone, Adam Sander tops the list of potential nominees. But with involvement in ‘Jack and Jill’, ‘Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star’ and ‘Just Go With It’, this could be the year Sandler snatches the record for most Razzie nominations in a single year from Eddie Murphy.

So, be patient and update your calendar! This year the nominations for the Razzies will be announced on Feb. 25, the eve of the Oscar ceremony. The winners will be announced on Sunday April 1.

The Golden Globes Most Glamorous And Ghastly Gowns

Underwhelming seems like a theme for the 2012 Golden Globe Awards and the red carpet was no different. While there were some truly spectacular dresses on display there were no clear standouts for us this year.

This year’s wardrobe memo seems to have been to wear a mermaid style dress with a feathery skirt. Evan Rachel Wood stepped it up though, wearing an amazing green and black Gucci Premiere dress, complete with actual feathers! In fact, it was our favourite of the night.

Our least favourite look of the night was Jessica Biel’s God-awful lacy disaster. We would like to know what in the hell she was thinking when she put that dress on and looked in the mirror. The top of the dress was saggy, the sleeves added nothing and the scalloped slit up the front was atrocious. It was just terrible all around.

Midseason T.V. Premieres – Jan 11, 2012

Its all about quirky, comedic ladies tonight on NBC.

Returning from the holiday hiatus is our favourite commitment-phobe, ‘Whitney’, at 8 PM. We really love this show and it’s over-the-top comedy. The chemistry between Whitney and Alex is amazing, its what keeps us tuning in. We can’t wait to see what insane antics the couple gets up to next.

At 8:30 PM we get to meet NBC’s newest modern lady in the premiere of ‘Are you there, Chelsea?’. ‘That 70’s Show’ alum, Laura Prepon, plays Chelsea, a sassy, free-spirited bartender. Her cast of wacky co-workers, friends and family round out the ensemble for this new half hour comedy. We’re not 100% sure on this show, but we’ll give it a chance.

‘The People’s Choice Awards’ start the awards season tonight on CBS at 9 PM. ‘The Big Bang Theory‘s Kaley Couco hosts the activities. Aimed more towards the younger generations, this is more of a party than an awards show.

Also Premiering tonight

One Tree Hill – The CW 8 PM
Ghost Hunters – Syfy 9 PM
Face Off – Syfy 10 PM

Also Returning tonight:

Harry’s Law – NBC 9 PM
Law & Order: SVU –  NBC 10 PM

It’s Award Season – Time To Start Stressing Over All Those Choices.

It’s less than a week to the 2012 Golden Globe Awards. Time to panic about picking the winners!

It is so difficult to commit to that one name. To decide whether you go with your personal favourite or put that check mark beside the name of the critic’s darling. Believe us when we tell you that we know your pain. So many awards shows…so many years…so much pain and disappointment.

How can we truly celebrate the win in a category when the artist we really wanted to win has just lost? Should we stand by our favourites regardless of what the industry odds are? There seems to be more drama in finalizing the predictions then there is during the actual broadcast!

…Or perhaps we are just being melodramatic.
But maybe you find picking that winner just has stressful as we do.

So, we would like to make things a little easier for you. We’ve created a lovely Printable Ballot for you and your friends to keep track of all those final choices.

We will be posting our predictions a bit later this week… as we have not been able to bring ourselves to fully commit to our choices yet.

Catch the 2012 Golden Globe Awards this Sunday January 15 on NBC 8pm EST.
