Looks like Oscar wasn’t the only precious metal out on the town last night. The ladies of Hollywood were rocking some serious metallics on the 84th Annual Academy Awards.
We were actually surprised, it was harder coming up with the worst dressed list this time around, as the ladies really seemed to kick it up for the biggest party of the year. There were some bad choices, but they were fewer and further between than on most red carpets. And, none of them were the kind of Cher-gone-Las-Vegas-Show-Girl disaster that have plague the awards season in the past.
We really weren’t expecting the level of glamour and sparkle and WOW that we got from Milla Jovovich. In fact, we didn’t really expect to see the ‘Resident Evil’ hottie at the awards at all. But good God damn! THAT is how you should look at the Oscar’s.
Poor Shailene Woodley however, tops our list of the worst dressed this year. She looks like she’s just escaped the destruction of Alderaann, all she needed was those iconic buns. Everyone seems to be praising this dress, but we just don’t get it. She’s 21 years old, not 81. She personifies frumpy.

Underwhelming seems like a theme for the 2012 Golden Globe Awards and the red carpet was no different. While there were some truly spectacular dresses on display there were no clear standouts for us this year.
This year’s wardrobe memo seems to have been to wear a mermaid style dress with a feathery skirt. Evan Rachel Wood stepped it up though, wearing an amazing green and black Gucci Premiere dress, complete with actual feathers! In fact, it was our favourite of the night.
Our least favourite look of the night was Jessica Biel’s God-awful lacy disaster. We would like to know what in the hell she was thinking when she put that dress on and looked in the mirror. The top of the dress was saggy, the sleeves added nothing and the scalloped slit up the front was atrocious. It was just terrible all around.

Oh Yeeeeahhh!!! It’s time for smushing and fist pumping again. God help us all.

iPHONE 4S SLR CASE
We’re sure the iPhone 4s is probably the single most sought out gift of the year. That Siri program makes us wish our phones were that intuitive. But what about those nerds who lined up to get the newest iProduct?
Your beloved shutter bug can now turn the already impressive 8MP camera into a virtual DSLR camera with this fancy phone case from the people over at Photojojo.com. Not only does the sturdy aluminium case protect your precious phone, it allows you to attach your Nikon or Canon SLR lenses, making your actual camera essentially useless.
The case also comes with a strap you can attach for – as the website says – allowing you to carry it around your neck like a real camera. Let us just say, if we ever saw anyone doing this, we would have to mock them mercilessly. It’s still just your phone people!
Under the Tree Treasures · For Him
Any nerd in the colder climates knows it is a real bitch trying to use any of your many devices outside in the horrible frigid cold!! The touchscreen won’t work with gloves and removing the gloves… Yikes! No one should have to risk frostbite just so they can tweet about the embarrassing drunk outside the local Starbucks!!
As someone who is more than a little familiar with the lower temperatures, I will tell you right now the gadget-gloves that simply fold back the tips of the index finger and thumb are just not good enough! I don’t want any bit of me exposed to the harsh winter elements while I play ‘Fruit Ninja‘, dammit!!
So, leave it to the good folks at The North Face to understand that desire to not freeze to death and come up with the fingertip-replicating “Xstatic fingercaps”. Thanks to this conductive fibre wizardry, the digital world will be at your fingertips once again!!
“Not today, hypothermia! Not today!”

We are not fashion professionals and we aren’t going to pretend to know anything about hemlines or fabric textures. What we do know is what we like; and what we like is pretty much everything you’ll ever see on ‘Mad Men’ or ‘Pan Am’.
Now we don’t want to discount Don Draper’s style, because damn, that man was born to wear clothes! However, we are enamored with the ladies in these two amazing programs. And let’s face it; men’s fashion hasn’t really changed in the last 40 years. If the men of today would pull their pants up and wear a tie every now and then they would look just like Don Draper. But that’s a rant for another blog.
What we especially love is the difference between how our gorgeous gals are treated in both shows. In ‘Mad Men’ the women are treated as pretty pieces of interior design, there to look good and keep quiet. To pour the drinks and light the cigarettes and make short work of the typing.
On ‘Pan Am’, there is nothing more important than their stewardesses. The pilots can be replaced, but one girl goes missing and helicopters are sent to bring in a replacement. They are the face of the company and yet, are still treated like prize pigs going to the county fair every time they put their uniforms on. They are weighed and poked and prodded every time they get ready for work.
We’ve been thinking about it and we’ve put together our very own rules for dressing for success – with or without sleeping your way to top.
