Spring T.V. Premieres – Mar 23, 2012

If you’re one of the few people not flocking to the theatres tonight to see ‘The Hunger Games’, you’ll be happy to know that the small screen does have some excitement in store for you!

The big news tonight: Castiel is back!!! Everyone’s favourite not-so-naive-anymore angel returns to ‘Supernatural’ in tonight’s episode airing on the CW at 9 PM. In our opinion, he’s been gone WAY too long and this news is ALMOST enough to keep us away from the theatres as well…almost. God love the PVR!

Everyone’s favourite dimension-jumping crime-fighting team is back tonight at 9 PM on FOX when ‘Fringe’ finally returns with a whopping 8 new episodes in a row. While we think JJ Abrams is a freaking genius and we love a good multi-dimensional sci-fi story, we’ve fallen out of love with ‘Fringe’ lately. Oh, we’ll watch it to the end, as we are fiercely loyal, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it axed from the schedule next year.

Chuck vs. The SurlyGurls: Reactions to the Finale

“I love Chuck Bartowski, and I don’t know what to do about it.” You and us all, Sarah Walker!

Friday night NBC aired the two-hour series finale of ‘Chuck’ and we were definitely not prepared for the emotional roller coaster it took us on. As we sat eating our Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki sandwiches from Subway, we quickly realized that our napkins would be used for wiping away tears, not teriyaki sauce. (Just because we’re Surly, doesn’t mean we don’t have hearts, and Mr. Bartowski stole them 5 years ago.)

It was quite a surprise when Super-Spy Sarah, who we already knew was on a mission to kill Chuck, showed up bruised and bloody and knocking on his door two minutes into the first hour. We thought the writers would make us wait a lot longer for the reunion of memory-wiped Sarah and love-will-conquer-all Chuck. It was brutal watching her lie straight to his face, cuddling up and pretending to love him still, all while being fed info from the villainous Quinn. Our heartbreak was only deepened as we watched Chuck become suspicious of the woman he loved, as he knew instantly that she wasn’t the Sarah he married. (Side note: Peter Bishop needs to take a few lessons from Chuck, as he couldn’t even tell that he was dating a completely different human entity when Fauxlivia showed up on ‘Fringe’)

Midseason T.V. Premieres – Jan 13, 2012

Happy Friday The 13th everyone!

In keeping with the surreal nature of the day, G4 is premiering their new anime version of ‘Blade’ at 11 PM. Everyone’s favourite half-vampire, half-human gets the Marvel Anime treatment in this new half-hour long series. The animation looks amazing in the 30-second trailer we’ve seen, so it may be worth tuning in if you get home from your night-out a little early.

‘Fringe’ returns to Fox at 9 PM tonight after it’s holiday break. While we’re glad Peter is back in the picture, we’ve got to admit, we’re losing interest real quick in this new team dynamic. It’s just not the same with Peter being an outcast. We’re hoping that tonight’s new episode has some sort of giant revelation, as the show seems to be in some sort of weird holding pattern. Anytime the Observers show up there’s bound to be a breakthrough.

***Update: We were just going to throw ‘Grimm‘ into the also returning section down there and pretend that we did not forget our beloved Detective Burkhardt when we originally posted this. But we just love this show so much we’re willing to admit we were….gasp….wrong. It doesn’t happen often, don’t get used to it! Nick and Munroe are back tonight at 9 PM on NBC!!***

Under the Tree Treasures · For Him

"Show off your mathematical prowess with a watch that features the equivalent notation of each number."

This watch isn’t just a pretty face! Despite its less than exciting name, the ‘geek wrist watch’ exclusively from takes the analog watch to a whole new level!

What horology-obsessed loved one wouldn’t want to wear a watch that looks like a theoretical mathematics student’s homework exploded under a quartz face in a beautifully symmetrical pattern!? Certainly not any we know!

With those tiresome and mundane old numerals replaced with sophisticated and clever equations,  providing strangers with the current time has never been so stimulating!

But what is that, you say? You have no idea what all those mystifying mathematical hieroglyphics mean? Don’t you worry! Each watch comes with a “cheat sheet” so you can look as smart as the timepiece itself.

Cheat Sheet (included with each clock):

12 – a radical

 – Legendre’s constant is a mathematical constant occurring in a formula conjectured by Adrien-Marie Legendre to capture the asymptotic behavior of the prime-counting function. Its value is now known to be exactly 1.

 – A joke in the math world: An infinite number of mathematicians walk into a bar. The first one orders a beer. The second orders half a beer. The third, a quarter of a beer. The bartender says, “You’re all idiots,” and pours two beers.

 – A unicode character XML “numeric character reference.”

 – Modular arithmetic, also known as clock arithmetic, is a system of arithmetic for integers, where numbers “wrap around” after they reach a certain value. The modular multiplicative inverse of 2 (mod 7) is the integer /a/ such that 2*/a/ is congruent to 1 modulo 7.

 – The Golden Mean…reworked a little.

 – Three factorial (3*2*1=6)

 – A repeating decimal that is proven to be exactly equal to 7 with Cauchy’s Convergence Test.

 – Graphical representation of binary code.

 – An example of a base-4 number, which uses the digits 0, 1, 2 and 3 to represent any real number.

 – A Binomial Coefficient, also known as the choose function. 5 choose 2 is equal to 5! divided by (2!*(5-2)!)

 – A hexadecimal, or base-16, number. – Geek Wrist Watch – Math Formula ($65)
