Its time to return to Westeros and the fight for power.
Season 2 of HBO’s wildly popular ‘Game of Thrones’ returns tonight at 9 PM. As if there weren’t enough people vying for the title of King, this season promises many new characters who will be throwing down the gauntlet for the title as well.
Season 2 will be based around creator and fantasy-God George R.R. Martin’s second book in the series ‘A Clash of Kings’. Hopefully the show can keep up the momentum and keep fans happy.
Recently, the SurlyGurls had the esteemed pleasure and privilege of sitting down with the King of the Gods, Zeus. We had a chance to speak with him about the upcoming release of his film ‘Wrath of the Titans’.
SG: Tomorrow, the second installment of your popular ‘Titans’ franchise will be released to theatres, what was it like to play the victim this time around?
Zeus: Well, it was a stretch for me to play someone weak enough to get captured by the likes of Hades and Ares, but I was excited to step out of my comfort zone. When I first read the script, I wasn’t sure audiences would buy into the King of the Gods being the so-called “damsel in distress”.
SG: Now that you’ve seen the final product, do you think audiences will buy you as the hostage?
Zeus: Even I was impressed with my performance, I took the role very seriously and I think that my ability to put aside the fact that something so ridiculous would never happen really brought depth to the character. I think my performance alone is worth the money you’ll pay to see the film this weekend. In the beginning I was afraid that my awesome presence would blow the minds of the mere mortals. Even if that does occur, it will be well worth it.
SG: Well, we’re sure that you did an amazing job, but what about your costars? We’re also hearing some great things about the CGI as well…
Zeus: They did a pretty good job recreating the Titans, those S.O.B’s, because there was no way I was letting them out of Tartarus, their punishment is far from over.
SG: What about your human counterparts? Surely you must agree that Worthington’s hair was 100 times better in this movie?
If you’re one of the few people not flocking to the theatres tonight to see ‘The Hunger Games’, you’ll be happy to know that the small screen does have some excitement in store for you!
The big news tonight: Castiel is back!!! Everyone’s favourite not-so-naive-anymore angel returns to ‘Supernatural’ in tonight’s episode airing on the CW at 9 PM. In our opinion, he’s been gone WAY too long and this news is ALMOST enough to keep us away from the theatres as well…almost. God love the PVR!
Everyone’s favourite dimension-jumping crime-fighting team is back tonight at 9 PM on FOX when ‘Fringe’ finally returns with a whopping 8 new episodes in a row. While we think JJ Abrams is a freaking genius and we love a good multi-dimensional sci-fi story, we’ve fallen out of love with ‘Fringe’ lately. Oh, we’ll watch it to the end, as we are fiercely loyal, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it axed from the schedule next year.
Tonight is going to be a slow one on the television.
FOX is premiering its newest hour-long drama, ‘Touch’, at 9 PM tonight. Somehow it seems like this show has been on for weeks now with all the advertising they have been doing.
Kiefer Sutherland returns to television as a dad with an autistic son who sees the whole universe in numbers. Jack Bauer he isn’t. We’re sure there are going to be some heart-warming moments between father and son, and some life-affirming lessons throughout the season. That still isn’t enough to make us invest a single moment in this show.
Now that Awards Season is over, it’s time to start booking our vacation time off for the best season of the year: Convention Season. Like angry, dirty bears emerging from their caves in the winter, so to will the nerds be venturing from their parent’s basements to seek out exclusive collectibles and action figures to get them through the long winter nights.
Since our first pilgrimage to San Diego Comic Con in 2010, we’ve come to fully realize what an amazing thing it can be to gather with like-minded nerds to celebrate the popular arts! Anyone who has read our ‘Confessions From A Couple Of Nerdy Girls‘ post, will know how much we LOVED Comic Con. So much so, that this year we will be attending not only SDCC, but also Chicago’s C2E2 and Toronto’s Fan Expo.
First up is C2E2 in a mere three weeks from now, April 13 – 15, at McCormick Place. We have it on good authority (from our friend and fellow blogger Matt Graham) that it is a good god damn time. Maybe not as big and shiny and full of pretty Hollywood faces as SDCC, but a great way to reach out to some of the best comic creators out there.
Having said that, the thing we’re looking most forward to is seeing our favourite Syfy star, Josh Gates, get to come out from behind the moderator’s podium and get his own hour to talk all about his monster hunting adventures.
Aside from that we’re really just looking forward to expanding our graphic novel collections (we’re coming for you Arachaia booth!) and a dream of Andrea’s coming true: getting to heckle and boo that ass-clown Ryan Buell from ‘Paranormal State’. If anyone can force him to tell the secret of his big, bad, vague and often alluded to but never explained “childhood experiences”, its her! There is a reason her mouth is bigger on our little SurlyGurls cartoon!
It’s going to be a BIG night on television tonight! Not only is Discovery Channel unveiling their newest 7-part series on our incredible planet, but one of the most anticipated season finales airs tonight as well.
‘Frozen Planet’ is the newest in the series to make us aware of just how wonderous and amazing our third rock from the sun actually is. If anyone knows how to show us the intricacies of both the Arctic and Antarctic it’s the BBC and Discovery Channel. The first episode will air tonight at 8 PM.
After you’ve learned a little something about the reality of our planet, you’ll have lots of time to change over to AMC at 9 PM for the season finale of ‘The Walking Dead’. We can’t even imagine what is going to happen, that was one massive herd of walkers heading for the farm, and lets face it, Rick (and Carl…who gives a 10-year-old kid a gun?!) have already killed one of their best fighters. Its going to be bloody and we can’t wait to see it!
Brace yourself Canada….Abby Lee Miller and her troupe of tiny terrors are back for another season of tutus and tantrums.
Slice will be airing the new season of the So-Bad-I-Can’t-Look-Away ‘Dance Moms’ at 9 PM. Then, as if one hour of a large woman yelling at small girls and their insane mothers wasn’t enough, you can watch yet another episode at 10 PM.
If two hours of overbearing moms pushing their kids to do better isn’t how you would like to spend your Thursday evening, you could always tune into the spring finale of ‘The Finder’ at 8 PM on FOX. Of course, even Walter Sherman would be hard pressed to “find” anyone that even watches that show. We’re convinced it was created so that the actors from ‘Bones’ would have something to do while Emily Deschanel has her baby.
